2009 Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet 6 Speed
This is a rare, rare car. In Mexico, the first Meganes came in 2001 as the first generation of the French hatchback. It was quite dull, and not many people remember it. This, the second generation Megane, oh yes. It had such futuristic/quirky looks everyone had an opinion on it. You have to remember this was the same company that at the time was producing the Avantime. Around 2004 the first Meganes came in as cool 3 or 5 door hatchbacks, or as a sedan. Also, there were several RS and Sport versions available which are now a true performance bargain. But, it was until 2006 when te CC came, offering the rigidity of a hardtop coupe, the airiness of a glass roof, and the topless experience as a convertible.
For the most part, they were powered by a 2 Litre 4 Cil that made 140 HP and they only came with an auto. But this was a sportier edition only made in 2009, the last year they sold it. It is powered by a 2 Litre turbo that makes 220HP and mated to a 6 speed. This was pretty much the same engine and transmission as the RS models, and after all these years they have become nicely affordable. The biggest issue may be finding one for sale, since this was the only ad for a 6 speed 2009 model.
This example has been driven 77441 km. or 48,119 m. The price for such a rare car? $174,700 pesos- $13,352 Dollars.

A friend of mine had an '05 (????) hatch. It turned out that cars of that vintage tend to have very annoying electronic issues, which got fixed during a mid-cycle refresh. Car would randomly refuse to start, and even the Renault dealership couldn't find the fault. He finally gave up and traded it in for a MK VI Golf.
But what I really wanted to tell, is that I once drove a R19 convertible just like the one in the picture. Had a summer job at a VW dealership at the time, and we had to T4 to another dealership which needed it for an event. Well, the driver of that van had to get back somehow, so I was to follow him in another vehicle. We had this used convertible sitting in the showroom, decorated with inflatable beach toys. Boss says: "Well, sitting around won't do it any good!" So I got to drive it. there even is a German word for damages done to cars by simply sitting around for longer periods of time "Stand schäden".
The experience was nice, but to be frank, the car wasn't. It taught me what body flex meant. You could actually feel the car flex in corners and on potholes. Just like it was made out of cardboard. Did you ever drive one the CCs? Is it any better?

As a kid I always thought those were really cool especially in that really awesome blue with the bonnet scoop and everything. Shame if the convertible versions are rubbish :(

Richard Hammond hated this thing. I generally am pretty in line with his taste in cars. But I love Meganes, and something about this one appeals to me.

I know, Ive seen the review and I also hated the stigma that those cars bring as "Fashion Statements". (Says the guy with the Cabrio...)

It isn't the sexiest thing ever, but I do congratulate them for the awesome roof.
